EU Accessibility Act deadline: 28 June 2025
The EU Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) entered enforcement on 28 June 2025. From that date, in-scope digital products and services sold in the EU must meet the accessibility requirements.
What changes on 28 June 2025
Member states must apply the EAA from 28 June 2025. National enforcement authorities can investigate complaints, demand remediation, and impose penalties from that date.
Services already on the market before 28 June 2025 benefit from a transitional period — but new releases, redesigns, and updates must conform from day one.
Conformance is generally demonstrated against the harmonized standard EN 301 549, which adopts WCAG 2.1 Level AA for the web. WCAG 2.2 AA is the practical target for new work.

Frequently asked questions
Does the EAA apply to my product?
It applies to consumer-facing digital products and services such as e-commerce, banking, e-books, ticketing, and transport. See the "Who is covered" page for the full list and the microenterprise exemption.
What if I miss the deadline?
National authorities can require remediation, impose fines, and in serious cases order a product to be withdrawn from the market. Penalties differ per country.
